Potain Tower Cranes Contribute to $1bn Turkish Dam Project

In Turkey, four Potain brand special application tower cranes are working on a great hydropower dam project.

Once complete, the $1bn Boyabat Dam will meet the growing demand for electricity and expand Turkey’s power generation capacities. It is estimated to generate 1.5bn kWh of electricity per year.

Four of the most powerful and largest Potain cranes are being used due to the scale of the project. They are two MD 1100 and two MD 2200 cranes, which were especially manufactured to meet the requirements of such a project.

MD 1100 have a maximum capacity of 40 tons and are working with 55meters jibs; one MD 1100 will eventually reach a working height of 120 meters.

The MD 2200 special application cranes have a maximum capacity of 64tons and are working with the full 85meters jib; both will climb as the project ensues, reaching heights of 104meters and 225meters respectively.

The cranes were purchased by the main contractor for the project specifically for the creation of the Boyabat dam; The construction is being undertaken on behalf of Turkish utility firm Boyabat Elektrik üretim. "
