Shantui Develops Driverless Bulldozers

Chinese construction equipment manufacturer Shantui has reportedly developed the world's first driverless bulldozer together with researchers from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST).

Over the past three years, the team has completed more than 100 tests of the machine, which can work autonomously following operating instructions, without the need for remote operation, according to IOT World Today.

Shantui's fully automatic crawler bulldozer is named after the project name DH17C2U and is developed by the Wuhan National Digital Building Technology Innovation Center of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Autonomous operation is achieved through high-performance computing systems, precise positioning systems, and 5G communications.

The machine can push and level materials, including in extreme temperatures as low as -10 degrees, IOT World reported online today. More testing in mining and infrastructure construction scenarios will follow later this year.

According to "Internet of Things World Today", Shantui plans to bring the machine to the market when the technology is mature. The company says deploying autonomous machines on worksites will bring many safety benefits and labor savings.
