High Energy Impact Compaction is a kind of technology which use impact roller with 3 sided, 4 sided or 5 sided shape steel wheels to transfer of compaction energy into the ground. The rollers are pulled at relatively high speeds to generate a high-impact force that reportedly can densify material to depths which is significantly deeper than conventional static or vibratory rollers. The contact stresses measured during impact measure between 300-1200kPa, dependent on material and soil conditions, equating to typical compaction loads of between 120-250 ton. The compaction productivity is up to ten times greater volume than conventional methods. Depending on the material type, fill can be placed in layers 500mm to 800mm thick and more. Ground improvement is typically measured to effective depths of 1.5 – 3.0m after impact compaction.
