The impact rollers, also referred to as an impact compactors, earthwork compactors, or impact compaction rollers, are a modern type of towed roller used in construction, landfill, land reclamation & mining industry. It is towed behind a tractor running at speeds of 10-12km/h, with an impact wheel driving the compaction process. As it advances, the impact roller exerts pressure and impact force to crush and compact both cement roads and roadbeds. This method ensures efficient compaction through a combination of the roller’s weight and high impact energy.

The impact rollers differ from conventional rollers in their ability to compact material at depth- depth of influence. Conventional vibrating rollers have a depth of influence of around 300mm in cohesive soils whereas impact rollers have a depth of influence of 700 to 2500 mm in cohesive soils. In non-cohesive materials depth of influence have been recorded at 3 to 4 m.
