Rolling Dynamic Compaction(RDC)

Nowadays Rapid urban and industrial growth has created a demand for construction on ground which has previously been considered unsuitable, such as collapsible and loose natural soils, former landfills, fill from mine workings and sites with prior uncontrolled filling. Rolling dynamic compaction (RDC) has found to be useful to improve such problematic soils and is now widely used globally.

Rolling dynamic compaction, which employs 3, 4 and 5 sided and polygonal impact rollers towed behind a tractor, repeatedly delivering high-energy impact blows onto the ground surface, which improves soil density and thus soil strength and stiffness. The high-energy waves generated by the impact blows deeply into the ground resulting in a greater influence depth, which is from 1m to 5m beneath the ground surface.

Benefits of roller dynamic compaction

1. Increased efficiency: With the ability to achieve deeper compaction in fewer passes, rolling dynamic compaction reduce the time and labor required for large-scale compaction projects.

2. Cost-effective: The rolling dynamic compaction allows for faster project completion and reduced fuel consumption, making the process more cost-effective than traditional compaction methods.

3. Improved ground stability: The deep compaction achieved by these impact rollers leads to improved load-bearing capacity of the ground, making it ideal for supporting heavy infrastructure and preventing future settlement.

4. Versatility in soil types: rolling dynamic compaction can compact a wide variety of soil types, including loose, cohesive, and granular materials, providing flexibility for different construction conditions.

Applications of impact rolling

1. Road and highway construction: These dynamic compaction rollers are highly effective in compact the sub-base and base layers of roads, ensuring long-term stability and durability. They help to prevent future settlement and cracks by compacting the underlying layers thoroughly.

2. Mine and quarry sites: High energy impact rollers are often used to stabilize and compact loose material in mining operations, creating a solid foundation for roads and structures within the site.

3. Railway and airport construction: Large-scale infrastructure projects, such as railways and airport runways, benefit from deep compaction, ensuring that the foundation is strong enough to withstand heavy loads over time.

4. Landfill compaction: In landfill sites, proper compaction is critical for maximizing space and ensuring environmental stability. High energy impact rollers can compact large volumes of material efficiently.

5. Flood embankments and dams: For the construction of embankments, dams, or levees, deep compaction is essential for structural integrity and flood prevention. High energy impact rollers are commonly used to ensure the material is tightly packed and stable.

Rolling dynamic compaction is unique design and high-energy impact technology makes it a go-to choice for road construction, mining, embankment building, and other earthworks where deep soil stabilization is critical. Our RDC packages including SWIC250, SWIC320, SWIC350 with three sided drums and SWIC250P, SWIC300P with five sided drums could help clients meet challenging programme times and keep costs down.
