Rapid Impact Compaction (RIC) is a ground improvement technique that can densify shallow, loose and granular soils. The soil treated by this method will increase the density, friction angle and overall stiffness, thus increasing the bearing capacity, minimizing the settlement and providing uniform support for the foundation.Dynamic energy is obtained by dropping a 9 to 16 ton (depending on size) drop hammer from a controlled height onto a compaction foot. The loose granular material shall be compacted to a depth of 7 to 9 meters below the surface by repeatedly dropping the hydraulic acceleration weight from 1.2 to 1.5 meters height on the foot in contact with the soil.
Since the feet of the RIC machine are in contact with the ground, energy is safely and effectively transmitted to the ground. Compaction parameters are automatically controlled and monitored by operation cab through on-board data acquisition system.
In addition to improving the bearing capacity of soft soil, minimizing settlement, and providing even support for the foundation, rapid impact compaction has another advantage of its flexibility and relatively small equipment, enabling it to work in narrow areas.
