Ground Improvement by Rolling Dynamic Compaction (RDC)

Rolling dynamic compaction (RDC) is a leading site compaction solution which uses a non-circular module of 3 or 5 sides towed at the high speeds (10-12 km/h) to produce deep, high energy impacts to the ground, densifying loose granular soils, landfills, and mixed fill up to 2–5 meters depth.

Compare to conventional vibratory rollers, RDC delivers greater energy per impact and a deeper influence zone, enabling thicker lift compaction and fewer passes than circular drum rollers in suitable soils.

As with all ground improvement techniques, the effectiveness of RDC treatment depends on the soil conditions and depth of compaction. RDC is most effective in granular or mixed fills, where excess pore water pressure is rapidly dissipated, although can still be applied to less permeable clays and silts in certain conditions. RDC is generally not considered to be suitable where the soil comprises soft clays or semi cohesive soils, such as peat, or where high groundwater is present.
