Zimbabwe Opens Upgraded Ngundu-Tanganda Highway

Zimbabwe's President Mnangagwa has officially opened the restored Ngondo-Tanganda Highway, a development that is expected to stimulate economic activity in the country.

Jol Biji Matiza, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development, Dr. Ellen Guevarazinba, Minister of Manicalia Affairs, Monica Mutswangwa, Minister of News, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, and Andre Zitzman, Director-General of Bitumen World.

The Ngondo-Tanda Highway was severely damaged by years of negligence. President Mnangagwa pointed out that the road had fallen into disrepair and that due to resource constraints, road repair had been delayed.

"As a government, we are determined to devote the very little resources we have to restoring Chipingge's highway. We have completed the road, but it is not over here. In Chipingo and Chimani, as well as other areas affected by Idai cyclone, we need to pay attention to them. Roads, bridges and schools were destroyed there, "the President said.

The road connects Maniko and Masvingo through Chirac. It also connects the Eastern Highlands with South Africa, Zimbabwe's main trading partner. The project covers a total area of 85 kilometers, from 188 kilometers to 273 kilometers. The initial 30 kilometers were completed between February 12, 2018 and April 10, 2018. From February 12 to June 7 of the same year, another 55 kilometres were completed.

The highway project was implemented by Pvt Ltd. at a cost of $20 million. President Mnangagwa pointed out that the road had fallen into disrepair and that due to resource constraints, road repair had been delayed.

According to Minister Matiza, the road restored seamless traffic between Manikalan and Masvingo provinces and was key to the maintenance of the Chisum Banger ethanol project.

President Mnangagwa also praised Zimbabwe's National Highway Administration (Zinara) for actively repairing roads on the ground.

"We are now confident that we can use the funds generated locally to repair the roads. We have always believed that to repair roads, we need American money. No We can do this with our own resources. If foreigners want to help us, we have other ways to pay attention, "President Mnangagwa said.
